Sandwich Shop Style Deli-Sandwich

Deli Sandwich 2

It seems like sandwich and sub shops are popping up everywhere, and I’m sure we’ve all visited one or another. And those type of sandwiches are the inspiration for our Sandwich Shop Style Deli-Sandwich!

Each month, Jon has an evening meeting for his job. They don’t provide dinner or any snacks at the meeting, so I usually pack him a sandwich so he doesn’t have to go hungry after already working an 11 hour day. He has to drive about 30 minutes to get to the meeting, so this way he doesn’t have to go out of his way to stop at a sandwich shop.

The sandwiches started out simple: Ham and cheese, peanut butter and jelly, roast beef and Swiss cheese. I thought they might be getting a little boring, and so I started making them a little more adventurous for him.

My biggest secret to making lunchmeat sandwiches so tasty: Wrap them in waxed paper and put them in a zip-top sandwich baggie and let them sit for a few hours in the refrigerator. If you’re packing a sandwich in a lunchbox or for a picnic, these are perfect because all of the flavors have a few hours to marinate together and get all happy!

Ingredients:
4 roast beef deli-slices (small round slices)
4 chicken deli-slices (small round slices)
1 brioche bun
1 slice of you favorite cheese (I used cheddar)
1 small pinch of Italian seasoning
1/8 tsp apple cider vinegar or red wine vinegar
Optional Toppings: Sliced tomato, onion slices, banana peppers, bacon slices, mayonnaise, mustard (any kind), lettuce

Make Sandwich

Build the sandwich, by first placing some lettuce on the bottom portion of the bun.

Top the lettuce with the roast beef and chicken deli-slices.

Sprinkle the Italian Seasoning on next.

Splash the vinegar on.

Top with any or all of the additional optional toppings from the ingredient list above.

Place the slice of cheese on next. Place the top potion of bun on top.

Wrap the sandwich in waxed paper and place the sandwich into a sandwich baggie or an airtight container. Refrigerate for a couple hours or keep cold in a lunchbox/cooler with ice-packs.
